Why become a volunteer?

Tour volunteers

Each year, more than one million volunteers offer their time or resources to the American Diabetes Association to further the work of our mission. The Association is fortunate to have a diverse base of support in communities all across the country. The Association's volunteer power is organized to accomplish our mission and ensure that we serve the diabetes community to the best of our ability with the resources we have available.

Be a part of the Tour Volunteer Team

Come help us celebrate 25 years riding strong by supporting our riders on this magical day. The Tour de Cure depends on volunteers like you to fill lots of positions to help provide an incredible day of event experience!

For more information or to sign up, contact the local event coordinator.

The Tour de Cure depends on volunteers like you to help the recruit, organize, and help the event run smoothly! We need volunteers in the following three roles:

Committee Leadership
Take charge of a group of volunteers to organize one of the key event areas such as logistics, publicity or day of event activities. Use your expertise to further the vital mission of ADA through volunteering your valuable time.

Committee Members
Every leader needs talented troops to accomplish the job. The committee chairpersons need your help in several route support functions such as communications, safety, medical and signage. Assistance is also required in securing food donations, scouting the route and planning the start and finish line setup, just to name a few. There's sure to be a job that matches your experience and interests.

Day of Event Volunteers
The day our riders have been waiting for has finally arrived. As an integral part of the Tour team, you can provide help in any of the following areas:

  • Check-In Area - Welcomes the riders, helps check them in and get them out on the route.
  • Food/Water Areas - Make sure riders are fueled properly with breakfast, lunch and lots of water!
  • Safety & Security - Help riders get on their way quickly and easily by helping with areas such as car and bike parking.
  • SAG (Support And Gear vehicles) - Drive the route to look for any riders needing assistance. Helps riders with mechanical problems and transports tired riders to the finish if necessary.
  • Medical - Treats injuries as necessary. We're looking for EMTs, RNs and others with a medical background.
  • Mechanical Support - Provides bicycle repairs and inspections for the riders.
  • Motorcycle Escort - Monitors route activity, cruises the course looking for any riders needing assistance, and tracks the first and last riders on the course.
  • Route Marshals - Participants who are experienced riders and serve as an example of safe riding. Marshals help ensure the safety of all participants by reminding riders of the rules of the road.
  • Rest Stop - Serves refreshments and offers support, encouragement and lots of cheering!
  • Finish line - Cheers riders in after completing their day, serves refreshments and distributes T-shirts.
